Within the framework of the announced contest in 1994 a new city area in the centre of Schönefeld was considered as a vision and to be developed together with the expanding plans of the existing airport Schönefeld. In the South of Berlin "The Tor zur Stadt" represents a general principle for the future traffic junction. As well pedestrians as car drivers - from and to the airport - are passed through different entrance situations. The central positions both airport and city sqare are unified to a system by the comprehensive development of the train station. Throughout different areal interventions, one traffic and service artery connect the airport with the Airport City, the train station Schönefeld,the city square with the town hall and the hotel as well as the building of culture with the public library and the "Grünzug" as a backbone.
